Hotel capacity has doubled in the last ten years

Berlin, May 2018 Berlin is home to one of the most modern hotel landscapes in Europe. Whether luxurious or inexpensive, Berlin offers its guests a wide selection of suitable hotels for any occasion. The German capital's diverse hotel landscape features more than 780 establishments offering excellent service and good value for money.

New openings in 2018/2019

Alexanderplatz ("the Alex") is a hot location – in 2018/19, 1,000 new rooms will be added, and in 2018, the Japanese hotel chain Toyoko Inn will open its first Berlin hotel at Alexanderplatz. Their newly-erected building will contain 500 rooms. On the southern edge of the Alex, the Lindner Group will open 165 four-star rooms in its upscale meand all“ offshoot in Berlin's Volt complex. In 2019, The Student Berlin Alexanderplatz will open its 457 rooms. In keeping with the principle of co-living, their aim is to help students, visitors, and Berlin residents to network with one another. New hotels are also being built around Berlin's main station: in 2018, the Spanish hotel group Barceló will open their second German location in Berlin, at the corner of Invalidenstraße/Clara-JaschkeStraße. This four-star hotel will provide 283 rooms and suites for business and leisure travelers. In Berlin's City West, the new Suitehotel am Nollendorfplatz 2  will also open in 2018. A total of 85 rooms will be spread over ten floors. Some of these will be long-stay apartments for visitors who plan to spend several weeks in Berlin. The interior of the hotel will invoke the atmosphere of a Japanese tea room. The hotel's own breakfast café will be connected to a gallery, which will display works from the collection belonging to owner, Felix Gädeke. 

Convention hotels

One of the most exciting construction projects in Berlin is the "Estrel Tower", which will extend the 1,125 rooms of the Estrel Hotel & Congress Centerby 2020/2021 with 814 rooms. With 176 metres and 46 storeys, the new tower will be about two-and-a-half-times as high as the current Hotel Estrel, making it highest hotel tower in Germany.

The Campus-Hotelin the Adlershof Technology Park will be built during 2018/2019 and will consist of a modern convention and conference hotel, Offering around 320 four-star category rooms. In planning are a spacious conference area with conference rooms and a large hall that will accommodate up to 1,000 participants, along with a multifunction hall for receptions and exhibitions. The pièce de resistance will be the skybar on the top floor of the 54-metre-high (177 foot) hotel tower.

Hotel Openings in 2017: Developments in Mitte and City West

Hotel Provocateur on Brandenburgische Straße in Wilmersdorf opened in March. With its 59 rooms, it focuses on elegant design in black and red. The foyer and bar are adorned with impressive chandeliers. Micky Rosen and Alex Urseanu, Frankfurt hoteliers and initiators of the project, are promising a burlesque-sensual, urban design hotel. Its appeal is further enhanced by an Indochinese-French restaurant.

The world’s largest hotel in the Hampton by Hilton chain, the Berlin City Centre Alexanderplatz, opened on the corner of Otto-Braun-Straße and Mollstraße mid-May. It offers 344 rooms with a modern design over nine floors. Breakfast is free for all guests, and both the HUB bar and the fitness area are open around the clock.

The Hotel Caprion Petriplatz on the Spree Island offers since May thiy year 144 rooms to long-term guests on a historical site: The glass floor in the foyer provides a view of the remains of the cellar vaults of old middle-class houses.

The Yardopened this summer. The 4-star boutique hotel with 55 rooms is located in the alternative district, Kreuzberg, directly on the border with the scene district, Mitte.At the centre of the hotel is the specially designed garden: Idyllic with tall grass, lawns and a terrace, inviting you to relax in the natural green environment. In addition, the hotel has a restaurant and a spa area with a large indoor pool.

In the trendy Kreuzberg district, the Orania.Berlin open just a few weeks ago. The classy hotel has 42 subtle but rather luxuriously furnished rooms over five floors.

In October, the Danish hotel chain Guldsmeden will open its first hotel in Germany - in Berlin. For this purpose, the Danes bought the family-run Hotel Altberlin in Potsdamer Strasse, which is currently one of the most sought after neighbourhoods in the city. A number of hip restaurants and art galleries opened in recent months between Kurfürstenstraße and the New National Gallery. Following the reconstruction of the hotel, the Guldsmeden will have 80 rooms. Emphasis is placed on sustainability, both in the culinary experience and in the room facilities.

In 2016, work begins on the Amano Friedrichstraße: Just a few minutes’ walk from the Friedrichstadt-Palast and the exclusive shops on Friedrichstraße, the three-star hotel will offer 100 rooms and a modern hotel bar with an extensive cocktail menu from 2017.

In the last few years, the 118-metre-high Upper West was built on Breitscheidplatz right next to Zoologischer Garten railway station. The bottom 18 floors of the building house the Motel One Berlin-Upper West with 582 rooms. The terrace of the breakfast restaurant on the tenth floor promises a breathtaking view of the vibrant metropolis. The 60-metre-high Motel One Berlin-Alexanderplatz on Grunerstraße is scheduled to open in autumn 2017. With its 708 rooms, it will be the biggest Motel One in Germany. The highlight is a sky bar on the 19th floor.

Three new hotels will open next to the longest standing piece of the Berlin Wall: The Meininger Hotel Berlin East Side Gallery will be finished by December 2017. The fifth Berlin establishment of the hotel group will offer 245 single, double, and multi-bed rooms with a total of 833 beds over ten floors. Travellers are also provided with a lounge, bar, game zone, and guest kitchen. 

The other two hotels will be located at Mercedes Platz: The boutique hotel Indigo Berlin City – East Side with 119 rooms and the Hampton by Hilton Berlin City East with 254 rooms will celebrate their openings in late 2017/early 2018. Right next to them, a new city quarter is being created with the Music Box event hall, a cinema, a bowling alley, and restaurants and bars.
