For over ten years, Berlin has been one of the top five cities for international association conventions. The top three slots are taken by Barcelona, Vienna and Paris. The ICCA ranking is one of the leading global benchmarks for international association meetings and events held around the world, and a major factor in decisions on the locations for many large congresses.
2017 was a record year for Berlin’s congress and meetings sector
In total, Berlin hosted 140,200 events (+ 2% over 2016 – against only 91,000 in 2001). The approx. 11.7 million participants (+ 2%) accounted for around 7.9 million overnight stays in Berlin’s hotels – equivalent to nearly one quarter of all overnight stays in hotels in the city.

Over the last 15 years, the meetings sector in Berlin has tripled the numbers of congress participants and overnight stays in hotels. The visitBerlin Berlin Convention Office (BCO) has played a crucial role in this outstanding track record. For fifteen years, the Berlin Convention Office has been actively acquiring conferences, congresses and meetings for Germany’s capital city, supporting customers around the world with its free service. Since 2001, the BCO has brought around 1,050 events to Berlin, including European or world congresses for many international associations.
