  • visitBerlin expects more visitors to Berlin from Canada

Berlin, 25 November 2025 Canadian airlines Air Transat and Air Canada are expanding their services to the German capital: Air Canada, Canada's largest airline, will launch a new long-haul service between Montréal (YUL), Canada's second-largest city, and Berlin three times a week from 3 July to 11 October 2026. Flights will operate on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays with an Airbus A321 XLR (Extra Long Range). The flight time from BER is 8 hours and 40 minutes, and around an hour less in the opposite direction. In addition, Air Transat will expand its existing Toronto (YYZ) – Berlin (BER) service from two to three flights per week from 2 May 2026.

Burkhard Kieker, CEO of visitBerlin, says: "The new Air Canada connection between Berlin and Montréal is a strong signal for the growth market of Canada. We have been seeing a significant increase in overnight stays for months. With the deployment of the modern, comfortable Airbus A321 XLR, which will fly three times a week from July 2026, the potential can be further exploited."

The airlines are responding to high demand from Canada by expanding their flight offerings. Between January and September 2025, around 40,000 guests from Canada travelled to Berlin, generating approximately 123,000 overnight stays in Berlin hotels. In September alone, the city welcomed more than 7,200 Canadian guests with over 22,800 overnight stays – an increase of 22.9 per cent compared to the same month last year. Demand was further boosted by a campaign launched by visitBerlin in April, which targeted Canadian travellers with the slogan "Come for a hug".

Just a few months after the establishment of the Connectivity Board by BER Airport, visitBerlin, the Berlin Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Cottbus, the new long-haul route is already proving to be an initial success for the joint activities. Direct connections such as the new flights to Canada are of central importance for the economic development of the capital region.
