Berlin, August 2026 New museums, major premieres and exciting culinary hotspots: Berlin’s autumn offers a wealth of inspiration for a trip to the capital. It’s also well worth a visit for architecture enthusiasts: the Zehlendorf Forest Estate was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site a few weeks ago, putting the spotlight on a special piece of Berlin Modernism.

Extra tip: Experience Berlin’s industrial heritage
From 12 September to 4 October, the Berlin Industrial Heritage Festival will be held for the first time. Guided tours and exploration walks take visitors to historic industrial sites and open doors that would otherwise remain closed – a special opportunity to get to know Berlin beyond the well-known sights.
New museums, exhibitions and places of remembrance
The new Mampe Museum in Kreuzberg combines indulgence with history, telling the story of the long tradition of this Berlin spirits brand. The BERLIN GLOBAL exhibition is gaining a new open-plan space, ‘Time Machine Infinitum’, which focuses on queer migrant perspectives on Berlin.
From 15 October, ‘Dialogue in the Dark’ offers a unique change of perspective: in complete darkness, visitors’ own perceptions are put to the test. Accompanied by blind or visually impaired guides, they explore various everyday situations, relying entirely on their other senses.
A new exhibition and a new memorial site also address the Nazi era: at Schönhausen Palace, the permanent exhibition ‘Art, People, Power’ recounts the palace’s role in the confiscation and disposal of art defamed by the Nazis as ‘degenerate’. In the Großer Tiergarten, a bronze tree almost five metres high commemorates the persecuted and murdered Jehovah’s Witnesses. The memorial stands near the Goldfischteich, where the Gestapo arrested members of the religious community in 1936.
Curtain up: Premieres in the new season
Curtain up on Berlin’s autumn theatre season: six opera premieres are on the programme at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, including La Vestale from 26 September and La Calisto in November. The Deutsche Oper Berlin is presenting seven new productions – including Stockhausen’s Mittwoch aus Licht and Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer, directed by Milo Rau. The Komische Oper Berlin has chosen an extraordinary setting: from September, Barrie Kosky will be staging Aribert Reimann’s Lear, based on William Shakespeare, at Tempelhof Airport.
Drama, ballet and variety shows are also kicking off the season with new productions: at the Deutsches Theater, Jakob Hein’s German-German comedy Wie Grischa mit einer wagemutigen Idee beinahe den Weltfrieden auslöste will have its world premiere on 25 September. At the Staatsballett Berlin, a new interpretation of the ballet classic The Nutcracker, inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann, will premiere at the end of November. At the Friedrichstadt-Palast, things will take a spooky turn from November with the new Young Show SPOOKY Charlottenburg: to mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of the Prussian Queen Luise, the story takes us to Charlottenburg Palace.
New places to enjoy good food and drink: restaurants and bars
New concepts are enriching Berlin’s restaurant scene: at the listed Kant-Garagenpalast in Charlottenburg, Dufte combines kitchens, bars, a café and a bakery with art and culture. Culinary offerings range from fresh pasta and hummus to Indian-Mexican creations and reimagined German classics.
Pamela, the Big Mamma Group’s new Berlin venue on the Gendarmenmarkt, brings an Italian way of life to the square. Japanese culinary culture takes centre stage at Nichi Getsu in Friedrichshain: at lunchtime, the menu includes sushi and bara chirashi, whilst in the evening a nigiri omakase is served directly at the small counter.
Rooftop tip: On the roof of KALLE Neukölln, The Dawn combines an all-day brunch with a rooftop atmosphere and a magnificent view over the Neukölln neighbourhood. Homemade pancakes are available until the evening – perfect for late-summer sunshine and golden autumn days with a view over Berlin.
Arrival and check-in: New hotels
Berlin’s hotel scene continues to grow, with a focus on a variety of concepts – from city hotels to long-stay options. There are two new hotels in Charlottenburg: since 1 August, the Scandic Charlottenburg has been welcoming guests not far from Kurfürstendamm. The refurbished hotel, with 214 rooms, combines Nordic design with Charlottenburg elegance. On 1 September, the June Six Hotel Berlin City West, with 84 rooms, will follow, situated directly on Savignyplatz; on the seventh floor, balcony rooms and a penthouse with a roof terrace offer panoramic views over Berlin.
Near BER Airport, the Candlewood Suites Berlin Airport opened on 10 August. Studios and suites with their own kitchen and workspace are particularly geared towards longer stays. A completely different concept is setting new standards in Neukölln: at 176 metres, the Estrel Tower is already a defining feature of the Berlin skyline. The skyscraper combines a hotel, apartments, restaurants, as well as event and office spaces under one roof. A soft opening is planned for December; rooms are already available to book.
New venues for business events
Whether it’s a former cult café, a comedy venue or an innovation campus: Berlin’s events scene offers exciting new venues for conferences, congresses and corporate events. On Karl-Marx-Allee, the legendary MOKKA*MILCH shines in new splendour following a restoration in keeping with its heritage status. Here, a restaurant, café and bar are combined with co-working and event spaces for up to 250 people.
OCTOGON Berlin on Leipziger Platz also combines dining and events. Spread over two floors, the venue offers space for up to 600 guests and flexible event spaces. Just a few steps away on Potsdamer Platz, the Punch L!ne Club Berlin is opening its comedy stage for business events such as product presentations, panel discussions or corporate parties.
In Neukölln, NLND Berlin is emerging as an innovation campus for business, science and start-ups. Around 11,000 square metres of conference space can accommodate up to 2,000 participants and provide venues for conferences, exhibitions and other event formats.
