Double-figure growth in tourism in Berlin over Easter
Berlin, 9 June 2011 The sunny Easter weekend in April brought a new tourism record to Berlin. According to the latest figures from the Amt für Statistik Berlin-Brandenburg (State Statistical Institute Berlin-Brandenburg), the number of guests in April increased by 17 percent to 846,200. With a growth rate of 19.6 percent, the overnight stay figures climbed to around 2 million in this month. In April, 118,600 beds were available in 764 accommodation establishments.
"Never before have we had to fill as many beds and as many hotels as in this year", says Burkhard Kieker, CEO of visitBerlin. "And this growth has made April one of the best months ever".
Particularly high growth rates were recorded for international visitors: around 319,000 guests spent 863,000 nights in Berlin. This corresponds to an increase of 23.4 percent in arrivals and 26.6 percent in overnight stays. The city was especially popular amongst tourists from Austria (+45.4 percent), Spain (+32.3 percent) and Switzerland (+30.3 percent).
There were also 526,600 travellers from Germany (+13.5 percent), who spent 1.15 million nights in the capital (+14.8 percent).
