More than 1 million visitors in the festival week of the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall

  • Around 200 events at original sites of the Peaceful Revolution

Berlin, 10 November 2019 According to estimates of visitBerlin around one million guests from Germany and abroad travelled to Berlin to take part in the festival week "30 Years of the Peaceful Revolution – Fall of the Wall" from 4 to 10 November 2019.

Burkhard Kieker, Managing Director of visitBerlin said, "Last week, pictures from Berlin drew worldwide attention to one of the most emotional moments in German history. With the city-wide programme to mark the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, we have reached out to the hearts and minds of the people. We celebrated, held discussions and remembered together how valuable freedom and democracy are today."

The festival week was organised by Kulturprojekte Berlin GmbH with the motto "7 Days – 7 Places". Elaborate video projections, concerts, readings and much more brought the events of 30 years ago back to life. In the run-up to events visitBerlin promoted the festival week worldwide and participated in the programme with the art project "Berlin Handshape" and the third "Q Berlin" conference. During an evening at the Bode Museum, the City of Berlin honoured the civil rights activists and silent heroes of the Peaceful Revolution of 1989.
