Solid growth in visitor numbers from January to June 2011

Positive half-year results for Berlin Tourism

Berlin, 10 August 2011 The German capital continues the tourism records of the past years: 4,568,448 guests travelled to Berlin during the first six months of the year; 8.2% more than in 2010. Room nights increased by 6.5% to 10,221,778.

Berlin’s Governing Mayor Klaus Wowereit: “More than 4.5 million guests and more than 10 million room nights during the first half year 2011 prove the unbroken attractiveness of Berlin as a destination and bear witness to the cosmopolitanism of the German capital. I am particularly pleased that Berlin not only maintained the high visitor numbers but even exceeded them again.”

This concerns, more particularly, international guest: During the first half-year 2011, 1,615,957 visitors travelled to the city on the River Spree. This corresponds to an 11.1% growth. They spent 4,122,930 nights in the city (+ 9.7%). Especially guests from Russia (+ 36%), Poland (+ 26%), the United Kingdom (+11.6%) and Spain (+ 10.3%) visited Berlin during the first six months of the year.

“The magnetic power of attraction of Berlin continues,” says visitBerlin CEO Burkhard Kieker. “And for the first time with more than 120,000 hotel beds, the capital city is well prepared for a further increase in visitor numbers.”

908,424 guests came to Berlin in June 2011 (+ 6.2%). Room nights rose by 5.6% to 2,074,566.

Altogether 122,735 beds were made available to them by 776 accommodation providers.
